Cirque du Soleil comes to the Island

Imagine my excitement, as a creative-junkie and Montrealer, when I heard that Cirque du Soleil was coming to Charlottetown! They have created a show just for Prince Edward Island and are to have three performances during SummerFest which is to include a parade through the streets leading down to Confederation Landing. Imagine. I was so happy to have been invited along with my TechnoMedia team to the the press conference and luncheon where we got a sneak peak of what’s to come. I cannot express how much I love the arts and being surrounded by such creativity. Just as Islanders have so much to be proud of, I feel a connection and pride because Cirque is from my hometown. I can’t thank the people of Cirque du Soleil enough for coming to our island, and the people of Prince Edward Island for consistently recognizing the importance of the arts.

Ollie

Since we moved to the farm we have had 2 dogs show up. Both Labs. The first one we came across one night on our road in a blizzard. Thinking it was our black Lab Charlotte we got the dog into our truck only to discover half way up our driveway that it wasn’t our dog! He stayed with us for two days until his mom came and picked him up.

This time Ollie the chocolate Lab walked up our driveway and we were all instantly in love with her. We love chocolate! She was a keeper if not claimed. Of course we did our thing and posted signs at the local general store and called the radio stations and humane society. Two days later Ollie’s mom came and got her, very appreciative that we’d taken care of her baby.

Living in the country, a lot of folks let their dogs roam. Both times we found dogs, we were unsure if we should keep them. The culture is different in the country and some people can be bothered if you keep their dog and would prefer that you would let them wonder home. But we don’t let dogs wonder so if your dog should happen to cross our path, they will be taken in and cared for until we find you.

Here are some photos of the very wonderful Ollie the chocolate Lab who made us smile for two wonderful days.

Courtney

A few pics from my wonderful niece Courtney’s High School Prom. She and her gang were to arrive at the waterfront on a double decker bus, which we did see drive by, however never showed up. We followed in hot pursuit via Courtney’s texts to me and chased a double-decker bus to Victoria Park where I literally ran after the bus, camera in hand, trying to catch it as it drove off. It was hilarious. They gathered at Charlottetown’s Province house before doing the traditional ‘walk about’ in front of a huge crowd, into the Confederation Centre for their Prom Night dance after which they were to camp out in a farmer’s field. They sure do go crazy here for prom. EVERYONE comes out to see the kids. Very exciting.

Terpstra Percherons

Terpstra’s is the place for winter sleigh rides here on PEI. A family-run vacation destination, they have a bunch of really beautiful Percheron horses who pull the sleighs and wagons. Daughter Emily even rides them bareback. (So cool, eh?) The big news is that they have two new foals! Big foals! At 6 weeks old they are very long-legged with rumps that already come up to my neck. We were in awe of how incredible they were. Beautiful! These gentle giants were very open to a little cuddle and pat, which of course they got a lot of from us. Oh and they had an awesome dog too! Here’s a few shots. Enjoy!
