Farm Shots

Here are s few shots I took around the farm of the big barn, the chicken barn and the horse barn. The first one is the big barn. The barn I ambitiously thought I’d turn into our studio. Particularly the loft which has really high ceilings and the space is massive. But after much thought I have decided to go with the cottage and am very pleased. This was just too big of a monster project! The last 4 shots are examples of how light can make the shot. Lighting is everything in photography, I mean… besides really cute dogs.

The Studio: Before

Here are some ‘before’ photos of what will one day be our photography studio-cottage. We had originally planned on turning our big barn into  a studio and spent a lot of time trying to figure out the details. Among other things, the barn roof leaks, the loft is full of really old hay that I can’t seem to get rid of easily and the place still kind of creeps me out a little. So today I started thinking about the cottage and though I’d take a good look around. Although it’s not as big as the barn, it’s big enough. The renovations would be much less work and  I have a bunch of design ideas. I really think I’m going to love it actually. Enjoy!

Gigi-Boo

Introducing Gigi-Boo the newest member of our pack. After having photographed my friend Leah’s 2 Bouviers, and Brian’s 2 Bouvs, I really started liking this breed. They are incredibly funny dogs. So here is our new 18 month old Bouv who came to us as Gigi and after much consideration will be Gigi-Boo. When you adopt an adult dog it’s a little like having a stranger in the house at first. So we are still adjusting and trying to find balance for the new dog, the old dogs, the horse, and most important, the children. Having dogs is a great way to teach my girls to be leaders and that’s the plan with Gigi-Boo. She’s a very big pup who likes to herd and nip when she plays. I have to make sure she is very well exercised and disciplined. So I have been running with her on the rail trail in the morning and walking the pack. She is a wonderful and very good-natured dog and I must say that her former owners did a wonderful job!

PEI Farm Life: The Big Move

Hello! I took some time off to move from Montreal to beautiful Prince Edward Island. A dream come true. Moving and farm life has kept us crazy-busy. Here is a mishmash of photos taken over the past month. Every day is a new adventure!

The first week a fog rolled in at around 7pm and within minutes we couldn’t see the barns across from the house. It was so weird.

Lindsay and I out taking photos of the farm. I let my girls use the point and shoots from an early age. It’s a great way of  spending quality time together and teaches them to see the beauty all around.

150 bales of hay that we had to stack in the horse barn. We were so sore afterwards! Then 2 days later I woke up, looked out the window and saw the hay guy leaving us another 100 bales!

Katie having a nap. She doesn’t like the camera much. We’ll have to work on that!
