Remembrance Day 2009 – Charlottetown, PEI

Yesterday we went to the Remembrance Day ceremony in Charlottetown. There were ceremonies in communities all over the island, this one being in front of Province House where Canadian Confederation was born. I couldn’t believe the people. There were so many people, standing in complete silence, and not for just the 2 minutes of silence either.  It was really wonderful. I was holding it together well until a young woman pushing a stroller, and her son holding a wreath, walked into my viewfinder on their way up to the cenotaph as a choir sang Abide with Me, at which point I got a little emotional.

The shots below were taken by me and my husband Derek. I am so glad we were there with everyone to show our appreciation and respect.

‘Trapper’ John McIntyre

It’s November and we’re at the beach. I can’t believe it! Anyone who knows me knows that Labs are my very favorite dogs. Here is the very gorgeous Trapper John McIntyre, aka Trapper, (okay so I’m huge M*A*S*H fan so I’m loving the name), celebrating his first birthday at Cavendish Beach on Prince Edward Island. What could a Labrador possibly love more than to get to run in the surf, eh? That’s one lucky dog!

Remembrance

remembrance1

Here is a photo I took at the 2007 Remembrance Day Ceremony in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec. I have a bunch of shots from that day, but this one’s special to me and so I post it every year. I feel it’s important that among all of the photos of happy dogs, families and landscapes we not forget why we have the freedom and privilege to live in happiness. Lest we forget.

Jasper

I was so flattered that people travelled from away to have me photograph their beautiful dog. What a compliment! Thank you Jennifer, Jason and Jasper. I had an awesome session with Jasper the Leonberger and his family. I wasn’t familiar with this breed but imagine the combination of a Newfoundland Dog, Saint Bernard and Great Pyrenees without the drool. Pretty amazing, eh? Well so was Jasper. We took some shots around the farm and on the Confederation Trail when Jasper started losing interest and started avoiding me. So funny. But my feelings weren’t hurt too badly. This happens sometimes. So we decided to give Jasper a little break while we headed for the beach where Jasper came back to life. The smell of the air and the sound of the waves perked him right up. We had such a great time. Imagine a beautiful fall day at the beach; blue skies, white sands, waves crashing and one big happy dog. We were all smiles, and so was Jasper.
