Abby

Is it a Dalmatian? A Harlequin Great Dane? Landseer Newfoundland? No… it’s Abby the Holstein! I met her ‘Mommy’ Amanda at a party and the next thing you know I’m in a stall with the beast! Her mum Amanda is a Veterinary student who  adopted ‘her little baby girl’ Abby. When Amanda showed up Abby made a beeline for her like a dog. I have never seen anything quite like it. (It was a little scary actually). Abby got a good grooming and loved it. She rubbed Amanda like a cat…. a really big cat! It was so hilarious. And like a dog, Abby had her tickle spots which we captured in one of the shots below. Very funny!

Cows are such beautiful creatures. Can they love and be loved? I believe so.

Calling All Minis

It’s been quite the winter. Our first here on our little hobby farm with our dogs and horses. I learned a lot about owning back-yard horses this winter. My only experience was with stabled horses, but having them in your backyard, with you and you alone to care for them, is not the same game, baby! I couldn’t have got through it without my wonderful husband and some very generous horsey friends who shared their time and knowledge with me. Thank you to everyone!

My biggest surprise however, was falling head over hoof for a little miniature horse who came to live with us this winter; May. We have known May for many years and having her here has been a dream. She and my horse Katie lived together for years and are back together again. Another ‘happily ever after’ here on the farm. I am now in absolute love with minis and lucky for me, Prince Edward Island is full of them. So this spring and summer I am embarking on a very special project and looking for miniature horses to photograph. I want to share information about minis and show people how wonderful they are. Sessions are free for this project. I will be booking sessions throughout spring and summer. If you know of anyone who may be interested in participating, please let them know. Contact studio@heatherogg.com to book your session!

Welcome 2010

Welcome to 2010. 2009 will be hard to top! It was a very busy year filled with more beautiful dogs and wonderful people. It was also a dream-come-true year, with our move to a mini-farm on beautiful Prince Edward Island; a lifestyle I’d dreamed of my whole life (but that Country Living magazine did not prepare me for!)

My photo sessions now include farm and beach settings, and more landscapes and country life photography. How inspiring! 2009 also brought a new stock photography website and commercial opportunities in product, culinary and tourism photography, that didn’t find their way to my blog but were very exciting for me.

So what’s in store for 2010? It started out with the launch of my redesigned website, and updated blog, facebook page and twitter account. Plans include the renovation of one of the outbuildings into a cottage studio, and we’re very excited about that. And of course more dogs, horses and country life!

Remembrance Day 2009 – Charlottetown, PEI

Yesterday we went to the Remembrance Day ceremony in Charlottetown. There were ceremonies in communities all over the island, this one being in front of Province House where Canadian Confederation was born. I couldn’t believe the people. There were so many people, standing in complete silence, and not for just the 2 minutes of silence either.  It was really wonderful. I was holding it together well until a young woman pushing a stroller, and her son holding a wreath, walked into my viewfinder on their way up to the cenotaph as a choir sang Abide with Me, at which point I got a little emotional.

The shots below were taken by me and my husband Derek. I am so glad we were there with everyone to show our appreciation and respect.
